SACRAMENT OF EUCHARIST

THE EUCHARIST

The Eucharist is the bread of life! Through it we celebrate and remember Jesus Christ. We come together as a community and break bread and eat together. The Eucharist is the source and summit of our Catholic faith.

FOR CHILDREN

Children in second grade prepare to receive their first Communion on the first Saturday in May. Children wishing to celebrate first Communion in second grade should normally be enrolled in Saint Clement School or Religious Education beginning in first grade. Students, teachers, and families use a text to assist in their formation for first Communion. As the primary catechists of their children, parents are invited to play an active role in their child's formation by completing at home activities with their child, which deepens their understanding of the Eucharist and the Mass. Families are also invited to a "Jesus Day" first Communion retreat in order to deepen their spiritual preparation to receive Jesus in the Eucharist. Our community of faith prays for these families throughout their time of preparation, beginning with a blessing at mass when the entire assembly along with the celebrant blesses all of our second graders.

Please contact the parish office at 773-281-0371 or stcengage@clement.org for more information.

FOR ADULTS

Eucharist is one of the three sacraments of initiation into the Catholic faith, together with Baptism and Confirmation. Adults seeking preparation to make their First Communion usually participate in the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA).
